Most retail traders spend 90% of their time perfecting entries and almost no time thinking about exits. This is exactly backwards. A mediocre entry with a great exit strategy consistently outperforms a great entry with no exit plan.
The Three Exit Layers in PumpTraderCEX
1. Hard Stop Loss
A fixed percentage below your entry price. If the coin drops to this level at any point, the position is closed immediately. This is your safety net — it caps your maximum loss per trade.
Recommended starting range: -2.5% to -4.0%
2. Take Profit
A fixed percentage above your entry price. When the coin reaches this level, the position closes and locks in the gain. Simple and effective for markets that tend to spike and retrace.
Recommended starting range: +3.0% to +6.0%
3. Trailing Stop
The most powerful exit mechanism. Once the coin rises to your activation threshold (e.g. +2.0%), the trailing stop activates and follows the price upward. If the price then retraces by the trail distance (e.g. 1.5%), the position closes — locking in most of the gain while giving the trade room to run further.
This is ideal for catching extended moves without having to predict the exact top.
Time-Based Exits
PumpTraderCEX also supports two time-based exit rules:
- Max Hold Time: Close the position after N minutes regardless of P&L. Prevents capital from being stuck in stagnant positions.
- Timed Stop Loss: Apply a tighter stop loss (e.g. -0.5%) if the trade has not moved after N minutes. This exits dead positions quickly.
Finding Your Optimal Combination
Use the paper trading session history to analyze which exits triggered most frequently. If trailing stops are rarely activating, your activation threshold may be too high. If hard SL is triggering constantly, your entry filters may need tightening.
